Janet Farr began her career in Bucks County, PA working for a local architect (AIA) and landscape architect (LAIA), where she selected fabrics and furniture for projects.  During that time she participated in work on the show house that won the Best in the USA 1987, in Princeton, NJ.  Janet was asked to receive the guests of the Philadelphia Historic Society in the personal home of architect Michael Graves' in Princeton, NJ.

After moving to Houston, TX , Janet worked with WDC Custom Home Builders, participating in every aspect of building luxury homes in West University, Houston.

Janet founded Southern Trends in 1991 and since then has built and renovated many luxury residences (including high rise condominiums), area restaurants and offices and has done consulting work for other designers.
